Large Field Fire

Friday, June 8, 2012 On 6-8-12 at 1308 hours, we were dispatched along with neighboring stations for a large field fire.  QA Officer 705 was the first to arrive reporting a working fire and requested additional units.  Brush 3 and Tanker 3 arrived and began to work the perimeter.  Command 3 arrived and established the Chesterville Rd Command.  Engine 2 and Tanker 2 were advised to set up a defensive position to protect exposures, as was Engine 3.  Command requested additional Brush Units, Engines and Tankers several times during the incident due to strong west winds pushing the fire.  The combine which started the fire from an electrical malfunction sustained minor damage.  Approximately 70 firefighters from the following Stations responded -

Kent County - 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8

QA County - 6, 5, 7

Cecil County - 1, 2, 12, 9

New Castle County - 24, 26, 27, 1

Kent County DE - 44, 45

Asst Chief Scott Duhamell had command.  Units worked for just under 2 hours.  Thanks to all of the mutual aid companies.
